Last week we started a new topic in PSHE called growing and changing. Across these lessons we were looking at
growing and changing from children to adults.
To begin with we looked at the life cycle of
a human. A life cycle is the different stages of life for a living thing.
There are six main stages of a human life cycle: baby, toddler,
child, teenager, adult and elder.
Babies develop quickly and can learn to talk when they are one
year old.
A toddler usually starts to speak in single
words and simple sentences. A toddler enters the earliest stage of childhood at the age of 3
and can usually walk and talk a bit.
Children learn to communicate properly and
form friendships with other children.
Teenage years is the stage when children
begin to develop into adults. Teenagers go through many changes to their
bodies and these are known as puberty.
Adulthood is usually the longest stage in
the life cycle. In this stage adults are fully mature
humans, meaning they usually have stronger muscles and senses.
Elder is the last stage of all the stages of
the human life cycle. During this stage physical attributes, such
as sense and strength, begin to decline. In this stage hair often turns white or grey
because the cells that make the colour die.
After this we began to learn how to manage feelings and hygiene during puberty. Puberty is a process of physical and
hormonal changes, which is when a child matures into an adult.
During puberty some areas you need to pay
special attention to by keeping clean are your hair, skin armpits.
Another area that is impacted in puberty are
our feelings and emotions. These are impacted by a special chemical in
the body called hormones. This can change physical appearance and
affect people’s emotions.
We were reminded that if you feel worried
about puberty you should talk to a trusted adult or childline.
Here are some posters we made about our topic:
