Science Year 4

Today, we have learnt that Tooth decay is caused by plaque collecting, in particular, around the gum line, the edges of fillings and the grooved surfaces of the teeth. Plaque is made up of food debris, saliva and bacteria normally present in the mouth.

We have conducted a fair test to find our how drinking different drinks can damage our teeth and cause tooth decay.

We used egg shells to imitate our teeth. This is because the enamel on the outside of our teeth is similar to an egg shell. Both contain calcium compounds.

To make it a fair test, we

Measured 200ml of each drink.

Poured each drink into a different beaker.

Carefully added an egg shell to each beaker.

We are going to call it EGGSPERIMENT.  Please keep checking our blog to see

which drink can damage our teeth and cause tooth decay.
