In History, Year 5 have been learning all about Ancient Greece.
We found out that the Greeks were some really brainy people who invented lots of things still used today! For example...
- The ancient Greeks invented democracy, and their system is still influential today. The ekklesia was the main assembly of citizens, meeting 40 times a year to make laws and decisions.
- Theatre
- The Greeks invented theatre as a way to engage with civic issues and provide escapist entertainment. Tragedy and satire were used to encourage Greeks to become more moral.
- Gods and Goddesses
- The ancient Greeks believed that each god or goddess was responsible for different aspects of daily life. They built many temples to pray to specific gods and goddesses, who they believed lived together on Mount Olympus.
Philosophy and Maths
The Greeks were deep thinkers and came up with commonly used mathematical theories.
